Font Help

Enable Unicode Encoding on your browser

Our website uses Latha (Tamil Unicode) Font. If your browser does not display the tamil characters properly, right-click on your browser and click on Encoding and select Unicode(UTF-8) to view the characters properly. If still the page doesn't appear properly use the font provided for your in Tamil Font section below.

Tamil Font

Our website uses Latha (Tamil Unicode) Font [Latha Font Download]. Microsoft's Latha.ttf is a Tamil unicode font which gets installed automatically along with WinXP. You can find it in the 'c:\windows\fonts' folder of any XP installation. If Tamil in unicode is not seen properly at your end or recipient end, a setting as mentioned below should be activated.

Enable Typing

Win XP:

  1. Click on "Start->Control Panel->(Date, Time, Language and Regional Options)->Regional and Language Options"
  2. Click on 'Languages' tab (nex to 'Regional Options') at the top
  3. In 'suplemental language support', tick the "Install files for Complex Script and right to left languages (including thai)" and install the required files.
  4. Windows XP CD may be required for the above process.

Win 2000:

  1. Click on 'Start->Settings->Control Panel->Regional Options'
  2. Click on 'General' tab
  3. You will see a list of languages under 'Language Settings for the system'. Scroll down the list to tick 'Indic'.
  4. Windows 2000 CD may be required for the above process.

Firefox Browser

Firefor Browser: Firefox browsers doesnt properly support Tamil unicode fonts. As a first option, you could enable unicode encoding on the browser to see if the characters appear properly. If you just see boxes instead of tamil characters, you could install an add-on named Adhiyan. Adhiyan is a tool to convert and view TSCII/TUNE encoded Tamil content to UNICODE Tamil. Adhiyan is a tool to convert and view TSCII/TUNE encoded Tamil content to UNICODE Tamil. Adhiyan is helpful to read TSCII/TUNE encoded websites and emails without installing the required fonts.

Prerequisite: Your computer should have at least one Tamil Unicode font.

Steps for usage:

  1. Install the Adhiyan extension and restart the Firefox.
  2. While browsing a TSCII website, press Alt + 2 for getting converted to UNICODE
  3. While browsing a TUNE website, press Alt + 3 for getting converted to UNICODE
  4. While browsing a website with Scrambled Unicode Tamil, press Alt + 4 for getting converted to readable UNICODE
  5. To switch off the conversion press Alt + 1 6. Use "Options" to configure Hot keys as per your wish
